WC Insurance Exemption Registration & Verification Process
Workers' Comp Process:
Certain construction service providers may apply for exemption from Workers’ Compensation coverage for themselves by registering with the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office beginning January 4, 2011, for those construction service providers not having a license with the Board for Licensing Contractors, and February 1, 2011, for state-licensed contractors at the TN Board for Licensing Contractors.
Effective March 1, 2011, any person or entity interested in determining whether a construction services provider has registered for a Workers’ Compensation Coverage exemption may access the Tennessee Workers' Compensation Exemption Registry pursuant to Tennessee Public Chapter 1149.
For questions pertaining to the online or paper registration process, you may email the Secretary of State’s office at: WorkersComp.ExemptionRegistry@tn.gov.
Electronic verification of Workers’ Compensation insurance coverage can be obtained from the Department of Labor and Work Force Development through their website at Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) under “Coverage Verification” (just below “Agency Services”).
