Tennessee Auctioneer Commission

A Principal Auctioneer is any individual who, for a fee, commission, or any other valuable consideration, or with the intention or expectation of receiving a fee, commission, or any other valuable consideration, by the means or process of auction or sale at auction, offers, negotiates or attempts to negotiate a listing contract, sale, purchase or exchange of goods.

Requirements

Licensing Requirements

  1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  2. Except as provided in TCA § 62-19-117, every auctioneer licensed under this chapter shall maintain a place of business in this state.
  3. Complete six (6) months under the supervision of a Principal Auctioneer (Sponsor). An affiliate auctioneer shall obtain a minimum of 1,000 points to be eligible for a principal auctioneer license. This is the substantial equivalent of working five (5) auctions from beginning to end.
  4. Evidence of Escrow Account (i.e., bank statement, voided check, or deposit slip)
  5. Complete an Affiliate Log with 1,000 points.

Copy of high school or GED certificate

Examination Requirements

Complete and pass the PSI Principal Auctioneer Examination.

Application & Fees

Complete the “Upgrade to Principal Auctioneer” application online at core.tn.gov. The fee for the application is $275.

Reciprocal Information

Tennessee reciprocates with the following states: Alabama (AL), Arkansas (AR), Florida (FL), Georgia (GA), Illinois (IL), Indiana (IN), Kentucky (KY), Louisiana (LA), Massachusetts (MA), Mississippi (MS), New Hampshire (NH), North Carolina (NC), Ohio (OH), Pennsylvania (PA), South Carolina (SC), Texas (TX), Virginia (VA), West Virginia (WV), and Wisconsin (WI).

Tennessee Reciprocity Requirements

  1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.          
  2. Must be licensed in a state with which we share reciprocity and submit a Certification of License with application (dated within ninety (90) days of application).
  3. Must provide a Consent for Service of Jurisdiction form found here.
  4. Evidence of Escrow Account (i.e., bank statement, voided check, or deposit slip)

Complete the “Initial Out of State Principal Auctioneer” application online at core.tn.gov. The fee for an initial application is $275.
