TDCI Promotes Experienced Audit Professional to Lead Internal Audit Team
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) announces the promotion of Brittany Thompson to the role of Director of the Department’s Internal Audit team.
A seasoned auditor with nearly 15 years’ professional experience and numerous professional certifications, Ms. Thompson began her career with the Department’s Internal Audit team in 2013. Since then, she has distinguished herself with her work, rising through the ranks to Auditor 4 where she assisted the Department’s longtime Internal Audit Director John G. Williams.
Williams recently retired after a distinguished 41-year career in Tennessee State Government.
“The role of Internal Audit is crucial in helping maintain the public’s trust in our Department,” said TDCI Commissioner Carter Lawrence. “During her career, Brittany has demonstrated that she has the knowledge, ability, and commitment to lead the way forward for her team and our Department. I am proud that she will continue her career in State Government here at TDCI by way of this promotion.”
Ms. Thompson, who has a Master of Business Administration degree from Middle Tennessee State University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, has also earned certifications as a Certified Internal Auditor and as a Certified Fraud Examiner.
In her role as Director of Internal Audit, Ms. Thompson will lead a team of four auditors, manage compliance audits, conduct internal investigations, and ensure that the Department is meeting the standards of the Financial Integrity Act while implementing new requirements set by the Tennessee Department of Finance & Administration for departmental risk assessments.
“I am honored to step into the role of Internal Audit Director. This opportunity allows me to continue to build on our agency’s commitment to strong internal controls, ethical governance, and continuous improvement. I have been extremely fortunate to have served with a talented and hard-working team of audit professionals so far during my career,” Ms. Thompson said. "I look forward to leading them in the years ahead."
She is a native of Northern Kentucky and has lived in Middle Tennessee for 13 years.
