NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) announces the promotion of Don McCormick to the role of Executive Director of the Division of Regulatory Boards’ Investigations and Field Enforcement Unit.

McCormick, who previously served as Administrative Director for this unit, leads 30 investigators and inspectors who help ensure that the professionals licensed by the Department are meeting state standards  to protect Tennessee consumers.

“With nearly 20 years experience in the Department, Don has a proven track record of integrity, teamwork, and success that includes streamlining operations and improving customer experience,” said Assistant Commissioner for the Division of Regulatory Boards Reid Witcher. “In this new role, Don and his team will continue to ensure that all investigations and inspections are conducted effectively and all standards are being upheld.”

TDCI's Division of Regulatory Boards licenses and regulates over 324,000 Tennesseans in their professions and businesses through 26 regulatory programs, which includes the Tennessee Real Estate Commission, Cosmetology & Barber Examiners Board, the Detection Services Licensing Program, the Board for Licensing Contractors, the Board of Funeral Directors & Embalmers, and the Motor Vehicle Commission, among others. These programs ensure that individuals meet established professional standards, complaints are promptly and effectively addressed, and consumer education on regulated professions and industries is offered. In 2024, over 21,000 inspections were conducted by the Division's inspectors.

A native of Nashville and a resident of White Bluff, McCormick has nearly 20 years of experience at the Department. Mr. McCormick joined TDCI in 2006 as an inspector, where he accumulated extensive experience in regulatory oversight. He is assuming this role after the recent retirement of longtime Executive Director Richard Hatfield.

“It’s an honor to take on these new duties while continuing to serve my fellow Tennesseans every day,” said McCormick. “I look forward to working with licensees as well as my fellow members of Team TDCI in order to ensure that we’re living up to our Department’s mission of ‘Protecting Consumers, Empowering Professionals.’”

In his spare time, McCormick enjoys spending time with his family and barbecuing.
