Former FEMA Spokeswoman to Serve as TDCI Assistant Director of Communications

Dennis Brings Federal Experience to New Role with State’s Insurance Regulator

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) announces Abbey Dennis has recently been appointed as TDCI’ s Assistant Director of  Communications & External Affairs.

Dennis, who most recently served as the Deputy Press Secretary to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in Washington, D.C., brings top-tier strategic communications and media experience to the role. Additionally, Dennis served as the Press Assistant at the Department of Homeland Security under Secretary Nielsen.

“As the Assistant Director of Communications and External Affairs, Abbey will craft strategic messages that effectively communicate to Tennesseans how TDCI will be carrying out Governor Lee’s vision for improving Tennessee,” said TDCI Commissioner Hodgen Mainda. “Her knowledge of federal programs involving disaster relief and communications are a perfect fit with the Department’s divisions and will be immensely beneficial as she helps oversee day-to-day communications for the Department.”

A Magna cum Laude graduate of Mississippi State University in Public Relations, Dennis completed a master’s degree of Professional Studies in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University in Washington D.C.

 “My experience with the legislative and executive branches of government has helped me shape my communications style and has provided insight for my new role here at TDCI,” said Dennis. “I am grateful for the opportunity to be appointed to this position by Commissioner Mainda, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve Tennesseans.”
