SFMO, Red Cross Join Metro-Moore Co. Fire Department to Install Free Smoke Alarms Feb. 24

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO), the Metro-Moore County Fire Department, and the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross will install free smoke alarms in homes throughout Moore County on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Working in conjunction with approximately 40 local volunteers, organizers plan to target 500 homes during the one-day canvass. The door-to-door event is part of the SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program which aims to prevent fire deaths in Tennessee through the provision of smoke alarms and fire prevention education.

The canvass was organized in response to a fatal fire in Petersburg on December 9, 2017 that claimed the lives of a father and his two young daughters.

Since the “Get Alarmed” program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO has distributed over 160,000 smoke alarms statewide to 514 partnering organizations and have documented 218 lives saved from an installed "Get Alarmed!" smoke alarm.

Who: The State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Metro-Moore County Department.                                                                  

What: “Get Alarmed, Tennessee” smoke alarm installation event. “Get Alarmed Volunteer” orange emergency vests will be used for identification purposes.

When: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (CT) Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Where: Volunteers will meet at Metro-Moore Co. Fire Department Station 1, 301 Majors Boulevard, Lynchburg, TN 37352.
