State Fire Marshal’s Office, Paris Landing Fire Department to Install Smoke Alarms May 6

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) will join forces with the Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department (Henry County) to install free smoke alarms in homes throughout the Paris Landing/Buchanan area on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Working in conjunction with local volunteers, organizers plan to reach 400 homes during the one-day canvass. The door-to-door event is part of the SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program which aims to prevent fire deaths in Tennessee through the provision of smoke alarms and fire prevention education.

The event was planned in response to the tragic fire fatalities that occurred in the Paris Landing area on April 7, 2017 when five people (including three children) lost their lives after a fire-related incident involving a wood-burning stove. There were no smoke alarms present in the home.

Since the “Get Alarmed” program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO has distributed over 146,000 smoke alarms statewide to over 500 partnering organizations and recently celebrated the 180th documented save from an installed "Get Alarmed!" smoke alarm.
