Tennessee Emergency Communications Board Honored with “Leading the Way” Award

NASHVILLE – The 911 Education Foundation, a nonprofit subsidiary of the Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCert), presented the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board (TECB) with the inaugural “Leading the Way” award at the National Forum on Public Safety and Community Development held in Washington D.C. on April 18, 2017.  

The Leading the Way Award Program recognizes a public agency or jurisdiction that has stepped forward and demonstrated thoughtful and diligent leadership in advancing the  goal of nationwide adoption and implementation of Next Generation (IP-based) 911 calling access by the year 2020.

“We’re extremely proud to be chosen as the recipient of the ‘Leading the Way’ award,” said TECB Executive Director Curtis Sutton. “The board and its industry partners have worked diligently to bring next generation 911 to the citizens of Tennessee and we appreciate the recognition of those efforts by The 911 Educational Foundation.”

As a national leader in emergency communications, the TECB is consistently improving 911 in Tennessee. Located within the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance, TECB is a self-funded nine-member board created to establish emergency communications for citizens across the state and assist emergency communications districts (ECDs) in the areas of management, operations, and accountability. 

“I am so honored that our state has received this prestigious award,” TECB Chairwoman Jennifer Estes said. “Our board, staff and telecommunicators from across the state work tirelessly to provide the utmost quality of service and care when Tennesseans are faced with a life threatening emergency. I believe Tennessee will continue to lead the way in next generation 911 development and technology.”
