NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners has been notified that Volunteer Beauty Academy’s locations in Madison and Dyersburg will be permanently closed on Friday, March 31, 2017 because of financial reasons. The beauty school’s students (28 full-time, 38 part-time) were notified of the closing this week by the school’s owners.

In an effort to assist students during this transition, the Department has created a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for students:

What do I do now? Volunteer Beauty Academy will be contacting cooperating local cosmetology schools to arrange a teach-out program that will allow students to complete their training.

How do I get my transcript? Volunteer Beauty Academy has indicated they will provide students with transcripts.

Will my credits transfer? Students’ credit hours can be transferred to schools that have agreed to participate in the teach-out arrangement. If a student believes that his or her credit hours are incorrect, students should contact Volunteer Beauty Academy.

What about my financial aid? Volunteer Beauty Academy is in the process of calculating refunds. If students have questions regarding their financial aid obligation they should contact the office of Federal Student Aid. More details can be found here.
