NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Consumer Affairs congratulates five middle Tennessee businesses recently awarded by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Middle Tennessee with the 2016 Torch Award for Ethical Commerce, an honor given to companies that exemplify BBB's mission of ethical business practices.

“Business owners that honor the terms of their arrangement with consumers enhance the strength of commerce in Tennessee,” said TDCI Deputy Commissioner Bill Giannini. “The Division of Consumer Affairs applauds the 2016 Torch Award-winning businesses. We are proud to work closely with the BBB in helping Tennessee consumers identify companies, like these, that they can trust.”

Established in 1998, the BBB Torch Award program is designed to promote the importance of ethical business practices and acknowledge efforts made by outstanding businesses demonstrating a solid commitment to marketplace trust. Nominees for the award are reviewed by a panel of independent judges from the business and academic communities.

The 2016 Torch Awards for Ethical Commerce recipients are:

  • Category 1 (1-10 Employees) – Eagle Communications, Murfreesboro, TN
  • Category 2 (11-50 Employees) – Griffin Mechanical, LLC, Dickson, TN
  • Category 3 (51-174 Employees) – Wilson County Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, LLC, Lebanon, TN
  • Category 3 (51-174 Employees) – Frontier Basement Systems, Clarksville, TN
  • Category 4 (Over 174 Employees) – HarperCollins Christian Publishing, Inc., Nashville, TN

“While Middle Tennessee has proven to be home to so many great companies operating with high character, these five BBB Torch Award for Ethical Commerce recipients clearly demonstrated their character on a daily basis,” said Kathleen Calligan, CEO, BBB Middle TN. “They consistently exceed marketplace standards for ethics in their relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, industry peers and the communities in which they do business.”
