NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) is alerting consumers of an unlicensed agent who has been reported for the unauthorized sale of insurance policies in the Memphis area.

David Brian Uthe (55, Male, Caucasian, Height: 5’7”, Weight: 210, Last known address: 775 Green Oaks Lane, Collierville, Tenn. 38017-7372) operated as an insurance agent until his license was revoked by TDCI in Feb. 2009, for the misappropriation of over $50,000 in premiums, issuance of fraudulent policies, and engaging in fraudulent and dishonest practices. Uthe has no authority to sell insurance or collect premiums from anyone or on behalf of any company. Recent reports have indicated that he may be engaging in such unauthorized sales in the Memphis area.

Uthe’s unauthorized sales activity may not be limited to Tennessee. The Mississippi Department of Insurance recently released a statement cautioning consumers about Uthe’s unauthorized activity.

TDCI has contacted law enforcement officials regarding reports of Uthe’s activities. An investigation is still ongoing.

TDCI encourages all consumers who have purchased a policy or paid premiums to David/Marvin Uthe (David Uthe’s father, deceased) or Uthe Financial Services to contact TDCI’s Financial Services Investigation Unit (FSIU) immediately at (615) 253-8841. Complaints may also be submitted online.

TDCI encourages Tennesseans searching for an insurance agent to visit the Department’s website where they can review agent appointments as well as inspect disciplinary actions and license verification.
