TDCI Partners with BBB Mid-South for Free Shred Event in Memphis on April 16
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Consumer Affairs is partnering with the Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South, The Commercial Appeal, and Shred-it Memphis to offer free document shredding to Memphis-area residents this Saturday, April 16.
“Secure Your ID Day” is a semi-annual event offered in advocacy of identity theft prevention at no charge to local residents. Members of the community can bring up to five boxes or bags of personal documents to be shredded on-site by Shred-it Memphis in The Commercial Appeal parking lot. Representatives from the Division of Consumer Affairs will hand out free educational materials and answer consumer questions.
“The Division of Consumer Affairs strives to advocate, educate, and protect Tennesseans,” said TDCI Deputy Commissioner Bill Giannini. “To safeguard against financial fraud, identity theft, imposter scams, and other crimes, the Division encourages consumers to securely dispose of outdated documents containing information like social security numbers, bank account numbers, and passwords.”
Documents suggested for shredding include outdated credit card statements, utility bills, investment documents, tax forms, loan documents, medical records, insurance documents, employment documents and more.
