NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Consumer Affairs is partnering with the Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, The Commercial Appeal, and Shred-it Memphis to offer free document shredding to Memphis-area residents this Saturday, October 15, 2016.

Secure Your ID Day” is a semi-annual event offered in advocacy of identity theft prevention at no charge to local residents. Members of the community can bring personal documents to be shredded on-site by Shred-it Memphis in The Commercial Appeal parking lot. Representatives from the Division of Consumer Affairs will hand out free educational materials and answer consumer questions.

“As cyberattacks and identity theft become more prevalent, Tennesseans should make protecting their information part of their everyday routines,” said TDCI Deputy Commissioner Bill Giannini. “’Secure Your ID Day’ is a fast, easy way to dispose of outdated documents containing information like social security numbers, bank account numbers, and passwords.”
