Shred-it/Take-Back Events Offer Protection for Seymour, Sevierville

NASHVILLE – Seymour and Sevierville residents will have opportunities on Saturday, Sept. 19 to protect their personal information and their families’ health by bringing outdated, private records and out-of-date prescription drugs to the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s Division of Consumer Affairs Shred-it/Take-Back events.

As personal identity theft and cyber fraud seemingly grow more prevalent and more costly every day, Tennessee residents should take every opportunity to protect their personal information. On Saturday, a Shred-it paper shredding truck will be available at the Seymour First Baptist Church where residents can quickly and safely dispose of personal documents such as tax information, medical records and other papers containing personal information.

Additionally, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department will attend the event and collect unwanted, out-of-date prescription drugs from consumers who want to safely dispose of the medicine. Throwing out old drugs reduces the risk of your home being targeted for a drug-related theft and the risk that children or visitors might accidentally fall ill from taking medicine kept past its expiration date.  Sevier County Sheriff Ronald Seals and members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol will also give away and install children’s car safety seats to help reduce traffic fatalities among children.

“I am pleased and excited to be working with Sheriff Seals and the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance in bringing to our county residents the ability to destroy old, but sensitive records,” said State Rep. Dale Carr, R-Sevierville, who will attend Saturday’s event. “We realize people are hesitant to simply throw away such sensitive material. This will give them certainty that their records are completely destroyed. I encourage our citizens to take advantage of this free service to rid themselves of unwanted and cumbersome paper.”
