Volunteers Needed For Smoke Alarm Canvass In Greene County

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office will be teaming up with the Midway Volunteer Fire Department to canvass the Midway community in Greene County, Tenn. with smoke alarms and fire safety education.

In the past six months, three accidental fire fatalities have occurred in Greene County, including one in the Midway-Mosheim area.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Midway Volunteer Fire Department are committed to saving lives through “Get Alarmed Tennessee,” a fire-prevention program that provides free smoke alarms to homeowners. A total of 76,190 smoke alarms have been distributed through this program since its inception in November 2012. Today, 89 lives have been saved because of smoke alarms provided by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and installed by our 410 partnering fire department/organizations.

More than 100 volunteers are needed for Saturday’s canvass in order to install up to 250 smoke alarms.

Who:             The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Midway Volunteer Fire Department.

What:             “Get Alarmed Tennessee” smoke-alarm installation event. Volunteers are being asked to dress in neat,  

                      but comfortable fashion. Everyone will be a given a “Get Alarmed Volunteer” orange emergency vest            

                      for identification purposes. Breakfast and lunch provided for all canvass volunteers.

When:             8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday, April 18, 2015.
