Nashville Residents Gain Personal ID Protection at Oct. 31 Shred Day Event
NASHVILLE – Join the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Consumer Affairs and our local partners on Halloween (Oct. 31) as we fight back against the real-life scares of identity thieves who can jeopardize your family, your business and your finances.
Co-sponsored with the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), Nashville Crime Stoppers Inc., and several other state and local partners, the Community Shred Day event gives families, small businesses and individuals a fast, safe way to responsibly protect their personal information such as tax forms, financial documents or medical records from being pilfered by identity thieves.
“As personal identity theft and cyber fraud grow more prevalent and more costly every day, Tennessee residents should take every opportunity they can to protect their personal information,” said TDCI Deputy Commissioner Bill Giannini.
The event is free and open to the public. A $5 donation per box is suggested with all proceeds benefiting the reward fund of Nashville Crime Stoppers, Inc., a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit organization that works with local law enforcement to help solve serious crimes.
During the event, members of the MNPD Auto Theft Unit will conduct vehicle identification number (VIN) etchings and will etch vehicles’ VINs onto consumers’ vehicle windows. VIN etchings are a fast, easy theft deterrent and give law enforcement access to consumers’ VIN in the event of a car theft. These etchings will be performed with a suggested $10 donation to Crime Stoppers.
