Description | This course will provide first responding officers with the tools needed to investigate domestic violence and other interpersonal crimes effectively and proficiently. Said tools will include TCA definitions of domestic assault and other pertinent laws, procedures for responding to and investigating domestic violence and other calls and duties required of law enforcement when responding to such calls. Process and procedure for making domestic assault arrests as required by TCA will be discussed, additionally, how to evaluate injury patterns and determine defensive versus offensive injury. This course will include characteristics and legal considerations regarding the crimes of strangulation, stalking sexual assault and other co-occurring crimes. Interview techniques that include a trauma informed approach with be provided. Lethality Assessment procedures will be discussed to include victim advocacy information. |

Prerequisites | POST Certified officer in good standing with a department. |
Materials | Laptop computer complete with Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 or higher and WiFi capability. Student must also bring a flash drive/thumb drive. |
