Electronic Premium Tax Filing through the Use of Online Premium Tax for Insurance (OPTins)
OPTins Policy:
The Insurance Division (Division) of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (Department) has finalized the implementation of its electronic premium tax filing and payment requirement through the use of OPTins, an electronic tax filing service owned by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
Pursuant to 2015 Public Chapter No. 155, the Division implemented rules, effective January 16, 2016, which require carriers to submit their electronic premium tax filing and payments through OPTins, the Division's designated third-party vendor, for the June 1, 2016, quarterly filing.
The Division encourages all carriers to begin using this system for the upcoming March 1, 2016, premium tax filing and payment deadline. Early utilization of OPTins will allow carriers to become familiar with the system and ensure a smooth transition to the required electronic submission by June 1, 2016.
Any additional questions regarding the intent of this Policy should be directed to the Premium Tax Division of the Financial Affairs Section, 500 James Robertson Parkway, Davy Crockett Tower, 7th Floor, Nashville, Tennessee 37243, and/or (615) 741-1633.
