Department of State to Provide Election Night Updates on Web
(Published: August 4, 2010)
Results from Tennessee’s Aug. 5 elections will be updated periodically at the Tennessee Department of State web site on election night after numbers are reported by county election officials. The results will be unofficial until they have been certified by the election commissions in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties. However, for the first time in a statewide election, the department’s web site will provide a centralized place to view results as updates become available. Tennesseans Set Early Voting Record for Primary Election
(Published: August 2, 2010)
More than half a million Tennesseans voted early this year – setting a new record for a state primary election. With all 95 counties reporting their totals for early and absentee voting, 543,296 people have already cast ballots for the Aug. 5 elections. The number of people who voted early this year exceeded the 447,910 who cast ballots early in the August 2006 primary, which was also a gubernatorial election year. This year’s total is more than double the 209,474 who voted early in the August 2008 primary election. “Early voting has become increasingly popular with Tennesseans,” Secretary of State Tre Hargett said. “I am pleased that so many people chose to take advantage of the convenience of early voting, and Tennesseans are taking an active interest in the future of state and country. I encourage every registered voter who hasn't voted yet to be sure to go vote on August 5th."
