Taking the Test

HiSET® is your High School Equivalency solution.

Qualified individuals, pursuing a high school equivalency diploma, may select the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET®).  HiSET® is accepted by the State of Tennessee in regards to issuing the HSE diploma, transcripts, or verification.

Practice Makes Perfect

All individuals wishing to take the HSE exam in Tennessee must complete an Official Practice Test (OPT), and present a copy of their OPT scores to the testing center. Free OPT testing and preparatory classes are available throughout the state of Tennessee. Contact your local program to schedule your Official Practice Test.

Free HSE in Tennessee

Governor Haslam and TN General Assembly have allocated funds to cover the cost of the HiSET®. Individuals throughout the State of Tennessee can now enroll in classes, traditional or online, and take the HiSET® in order to receive a high school equivalency diploma at no cost.

Testing Center Locations

After you have completed all requirements, you may then register to take the HiSET® Exam. The testing center will be determined by your local Adult Education program. For questions regarding classes or taking the Official Practice Test, contact your local Tennessee Adult Education office.
