NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips today released the preliminary state unemployment rate for January, which is 5.4 percent.  While the number of Tennesseans out of work is down from the previous month, there are still thousands of people across the state searching for employment.

Currently Tennessee employers have more than 100,000 open positions available to qualified applicants in each of the state’s 95 counties.

Tennesseans have the opportunity to apply for positions in a wide variety of occupations, ranging from healthcare, to trucking, and farming.

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development provides many different resources to help in the jobs search process.  Jobs4TN.gov is a database of more than 90,000 job openings at any given time.
