Public Safety

Governor Haslam's Goal: To promote the safety and security of Tennesseans.

Safe neighborhoods and communities are the keys to a healthy, vibrant society.  Governor Haslam established a public safety subcabinet that is working across state agencies to reduce drug abuse and trafficking, curb violent crime, and cut the rate of repeat offenders.

Violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Violent
crimes are defined in the UCR Program as those offenses which involve force or threat of force. The rate below is per 100,000 persons.
