About Us

The Tennessee Higher Education Commission is the state’s coordinating agency for higher education. THEC manages a variety of finance, academic, research and consumer protection initiatives, which promote student success and support the State’s completion agenda. THEC’s responsibilities and tasks include crafting the Public Agenda, reviewing and approving new academic programs, recommending funding among higher education institutions, and providing independent data analysis and information to inform higher education policy-making. THEC’s efforts, partnerships and initiatives are intended to increase educational attainment in the state while improving higher education access and success for all Tennesseans.
