Grant Programs for Institutions

THEC is responsible for outreach to institutions via both state and federal grant programs.


  • TN Reconnect Community Grant Competition

    THEC has designed a statewide approach to providing community‐based services for adults with some college, no degree for the purpose of increasing the credential attainment of this population. It is our intent to call for proposals from communities, broadly defined. For the purposes of this grant, a “community” will be defined as a city, county, geographic region or cluster of the previous entities, existing in the State of Tennessee. An “adult” will be defined as those who are in the age range of 25‐64 inclusive, who started a postsecondary credential but did not finish.

  • Veteran Reconnect

    The programs funded through Veteran Reconnect will increase campus services for student veterans and provide veteran-specific resources, such as the expansion of campus veteran centers or professional development for faculty and staff on the specific needs of students with military experience.

  • TN Promise Forward

    The aim of the Tennessee Promise Forward initiative is to support postsecondary retention and completion of Tennessee Promise students through competitive grants to Tennessee community colleges.

  • LEAP

    The Labor Education Alignment Program (LEAP) provides funding and support to local communities to align the needs of local industry with postsecondary education options available to students. LEAP is administered by THEC’s division of Legal and External Affairs.

  • Drive to 55 Project Capacity Fund Grant RFP

    Approved by the Governor and the General Assembly, the Drive to 55 Project Capacity Fund will provide competitive grants to public institutions to fund infrastructure costs, equipment acquisitions, facility expansions, technology needs, or new capital construction and major renovation. The Drive to 55 Project Capacity Fund will help institutions increase the production of postsecondary credentials that align with regional and statewide workforce development needs.

     The Institutional Outcome Improvement Fund Grant will assist institutions in growing student outcomes in areas such as credit hour progression and degree completion.

  • Advise TN

    Advise TN is an initiative of the Drive to 55 focused on increasing access to college advising and building a college-going culture in high schools across the state. The program is administered by THEC’s College Access and Success Division. Advise TN will provide services to all juniors and seniors at each of the 30 participating high schools with the intention of helping students enroll in a postsecondary option that fits the interests and needs of the students.

  • Improving Teacher Quality Grants

    This federal program was established to provide grants for colleges and universities to develop and implement workshops for K-12 teachers in the areas of mathematics, science and humanities. The purpose is to establish a collaborative planning partnership between higher education and K-12 education for teacher preparation and continuing professional development.

    The Diversity in Teaching Grant (formerly known as the Minority Teacher Education grant program) is a competitive matching grant program that aims to increase the number of qualified teachers from under-represented groups who are committed to diversity as an instructional tool and entering the teaching profession in grades K-12.
