Practice Locations

You are required to keep TennCare Provider Registration up-to-date with any changes to the information you submit to TennCare through CAQH as such changes occur. While it is hard to rate one item of information as more important than another, it is especially important that we have your Practice Location(s) information exact and up-to-date at all times. You should also keep CMS up-to-date on your practice location(s) through NPPES.

The “Primary Business Address” or “Practice Location” listed on your PIPP Attestation must match EXACTLY one of the practice locations listed in your TennCare Provider Registration Portal profile. If the addresses do not match, your attestation will be returned to you for correction.

If you are unsure what practice locations are on file for you in CAQH and the TennCare Provider Registration System, please contact provider.registration@tn.gov for assistance.

To avoid a return due to an address mismatch, review and update these systems BEFORE submitting your attestation:

  • CMS EHR Registration and Attestation website 
  • CAQH ProView
  • TennCare Provider Registration Portal
  • NPPES NPI Registry

The addresses on your attestation must EXACTLY match with the addresses TennCare has in its Provider Registration files for you. This is regardless of whether you are in solo practice (with or without multiple locations) or are a part of a group (with or without multiple locations).

NOTE: The EHR Incentive Payment and Medicare/Medicaid crossover payments are made by the Division of TennCare, NOT by the MCOs or DBM.

The primary address in our files is the one to which we make your EHR Incentive Payment, as well as verify your MU data and registry information. If they don’t match, you don’t get paid.

It is the responsibility of each provider and each practice to update these systems whether or not they participate in PIPP. Here’s how to review and update each system, whether your attestation has been returned or has yet to be submitted:

  • CMS Promoting Interoperability Programs Registration System (formerly the CMS EHR Registration and Attestation website)  ̶  The “Primary Business Address” appearing on your PIPP Attestation is pulled from the CMS Promoting Interoperability Programs Registration System where you originally signed up for the EHR Incentive program. What CMS means by “Primary Business Address” is the location where you practice most often (not where your group has a business office). To update:
    • Go to https://ehrincentives.cms.gov/hitech/login.action.
    • Enter the CMS Registration Number you were originally given (ten digits; this is not the CMS Certification number for your EHR system).
    • Click on “Modify”.
    • On EACH page, click “Save & Continue”.
    • On the “Business Address & Phone Number” page, make the needed address change(s). You should also ensure that your correct contact email address is listed here as well, so that TennCare can contact you when necessary. Then click “Save & Continue”.
    • On the last page, click “Submit”.
    • For this process to be successful, it is very important that on each and every page, you click “Save & Continue” at the bottom of the page whether or not you made changes to that page. Then at the end, click “Submit.” If you do not click “Submit”, your changes will not be sent to TennCare.

  • CAQH ProView From this database, TennCare collects information on each individual provider. To update:
    • Log into your CAQH profile at https://proview.caqh.org/login.
    • If you are registered as an individual or sole proprietor, ensure the “Practice Location” section includes your primary practice location and that you have checked “Yes” for “Are you currently practicing at this address.”
    • If you are registered as a member of a group, ensure the ‘Practice Location’ section includes your group or clinic name and that you have checked “Yes” for “Are you currently practicing at this address.”

  • TennCare Provider Registration Portal From this database, TennCare gathers information on groups. To update:
    • Go to https://pdms.tenncare.tn.gov/Account/Login.aspx.
    • Select “Update Registration”,
    • Go through each link on the left side of the screen from the Identification section through the Agreements section. Maneuver through the list of links by reviewing the information in each section and select “Save”, then “Next”.
    • In the Practice Locations section, select the edit icon on the far right after the listed Primary Practice Address and each listed Additional Practice Location in order to update. Once the next box opens, edit the address to match as needed. You may also add new Additional Practice Locations if needed.
    • Have the Group/Clinic for which you are attesting verify you are listed as an individual provider in the group profile found at https://pdms.tenncare.tn.gov/Account/Login.aspx.
    • Once all sections have been reviewed, select “Submit to TennCare”.

  • NPPES NPI Registry This registry includes the practice location that is associated with your NPI. Updates made to addresses at any other CMS site will not update the address on file in NPPES. 

Please allow 24-hours after performing any of the above changes before submitting or resubmitting your attestation. Attestations with unresolved address issues will not be processed for an incentive payment.
