This course will cover how to create a terrain model from point cloud data. You will learn how to attach point cloud data, view the point cloud data, create the terrain model from the point cloud data and also how to add breaklines to the point cloud terrain model. You will also learn how to combine and merge point cloud data with field survey data to create a complex terrain model.

    In this exercise, you will learn how to create a terrain model from point cloud data. The point cloud terrain model     will then be used to attach the point cloud data.

    Create Breaklines from Point Cloud Data                                                                                                                 15:16

    In this exercise, you will learn how to add breaklines to the point cloud terrain model. We will begin by attaching     raster imagery files. This file and the already attached survey data will be used as guide to draw SmartLines along     the existing pavement, shoulders and median ditch. These lines will represent breaklines that will be added to the     point cloud terrain model.

    Create a Complex Terrain Model                                                                                                                                  08:34

    Many times it is necessary to supplement the point cloud data with field survey data by merging the two together     to form a single combined terrain model. In this exercise, you will learn how to combine the point cloud terrain     model with the survey terrain model to form a complex terrain model.

Come explore Georeferenced Coordinate Systems and the LiDAR tools under the reality modeling tab in OpenRoads Designer. We will take a look into what a Georeferenced Coordinate System is and why setting the correct one is critical for your project’s success. We will also explore the tools available for processing Point Cloud data. You will learn to build a terrain model from unclassified LiDAR data and remove the first return shots (foliage) resulting in a more accurate representation of the ground’s surface.
