Interstate Closures: UP TO 12 weekends between June 2018 and June 2019

All scheduled closures are TENTATIVE, dependent on weather and project progress.


·       Friday, September 21, 9:00 p.m. until Monday, September 24, 6:00 a.m. FULL Closure of I-240 east and westbound. *Poplar Avenue east and westbound will be OPEN. There will be no access to I-240 from Poplar Avenue.

In addition to this weekend’s full interstate closure, contract crews will be working during the overnight hours this week in preparation for the bridge work.

The NIGHTLY closures are scheduled as follows:

·       Wednesday, September 19 and Thursday, September 20, 9:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.  – Each night there will be lane closures on Poplar Avenue westbound.

*The ramp from I-240 eastbound to Poplar Avenue westbound will be CLOSED.

*The ramp from Poplar Avenue westbound to I-240 westbound will be CLOSED.

During the full closures, I-240 will be closed to traffic between the I-240/I-40 split to the north and the I-240/State Route 385 split to the south. Poplar Avenue will also be closed. (see detour map)

Weekend work will move to different sections of the project, but the interstate detour will remain the same for all closures. There will be NO access to I-240 entrance and exit ramps along this stretch during the closures.

All scheduled closures are TENTATIVE, dependent on weather and project progress. A final decision for each closure will be made the Wednesday before the scheduled work.


Interstate detour routes will be provided online and by way of overhead and portable message boards. Local detour routes will depend upon specific bridge work, and will also be provided online and by way of street signage.
