US 27 Reconstruction in Downtown Chattanooga

including widening the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River

NOTICE: NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN

On October 29, 2018, TDOT contract crews shifted traffic on US 27 South* as part of Phase 3 of the reconstruction project in downtown Chattanooga, Hamilton County. The new confirguration is as follows.

  • US 27 South traffic is shifted to the east side of the roadway, between the I-24 interchange and the 4th Street interchange.
  • The entrance ramp from W. Main Street to US 27 South that provides quick access to I‑24 is closed. Motorists can access I-24 from Wiliams Street or MLK Boulevard.
  • US 27 South traffic must use a new exit between 4th Street and 6th Street to access MLK Boulevard.
  • MLK Boulevard traffic can access US 27 South via an extended ramp that merges onto the highway just north of Main Street.

This configuration is expected to remain in place for the better part of 2019 with some additional shifts planned at 4th Street and on the ramps. Motorists are urged to use caution and be aware of changing road conditions throughout the work zone.

*Traffic on US 27 North will not be affected as a result of this traffic shift.
