Transportation projects are developed in four phases: Planning and Environmental, Design, Right-of-Way (ROW), and Construction. The widening of State Route 332 (Concord Road) is currently in the construction phase.

February 7, 2023

The contractor has continued work on the remaining punch list items to close out the project. Including continued cleaning of the project site and the dressing up of the laydown yard. Repairs on ADA ramps have been underway.

September 26, 2022

The contractor has continued work on the remaining punch list items to close out the project. Including, continued cleaning of the project site, and the dressing up of the laydown yard. Repairs on ADA ramps will start in the coming weeks.  

August 25, 2022

The contractor has continued work on the remaining punch list items to close out the project. Guardrail has been installed near the round-a-bout to protect the greenway connecting to Northshore Drive. The contractor has continued cleaning the project site, including the laydown yard.  

July 28, 2022

The contractor has begun working on the punch list items. The contractor has continued cleaning the project site, including the laydown yard. Items that were pointed out during the walk-through with the contractor are being worked on to close out the project. The signal sub-contractor has completed their portion of the punchlist.  

July 1, 2022

Contract items completed. The contractor is now addressing any requests by TDOT and local partners.  

May 31, 2022

The contractor has begun working on the punch list items. The contractor has continued cleaning the project site. A project walk-through with the contractor is scheduled to take place to go through items needing to be addressed before project closeout.

April 27, 2022

All of the major work for the project has been completed. A closing out punch-list has been updated with items that need to be touched up before closing out the project. Cleaning of the overall project site has been underway. The pedestrian signals are being verified. Possible relocation of some of the pedestrian poles will take place.

March 1, 2022

The prime contractor has completed the bridge construction. Grinding and grooving operations on the bridge have also been completed. The grading subcontractor has a small area that requires refining for the sod to be placed. Sod will be placed in the remaining areas where needed. The paving subcontractor has finished asphalt operations throughout the project.  The pedestrian signals are still being worked on and verified. 

 January 25, 2022

The prime contractor has completed the bridge construction. Grinding and grooving operations on the bridge have ben also complete. The grading subcontractor is working on the finishing touches throughout the project. Sod will be placed in the remaining areas where needed. The paving subcontractor has finished asphalt operations throughout the project. The Contractor has completed the sidewalk installation, and ADA ramp installations. The signalization is almost complete, and pedestrian signals are still being worked on and verified. 

 December 22, 2021

The prime contractor has completed bridge construction. A subcontractor will start grinding and grooving operations on the bridge. The grading subcontractor is working on the finishing touches throughout the project. The paving subcontractor is onsite finishing pouring the last of the curb and gutter. The contractior has completed the sidewalk installation. The last 3 ADA ramps will be poured shortly. The signalization is almost complete. A test run of the street lights and
traffic signals will follow.

November 29, 2021

The prime contractor has completed most of the bridge construction. A 10’ sidewalk will be constructed on the bridge.  The grading subcontractor has finished grading a large portion of the project and the side slopes are getting finishing touches. The paving subcontractor is onsite placing base stone and pouring curb & gutter. The prime contractor has completed a large portion of sidewalk installation. Small areas are unfinished. In the coming  weeks more layers of asphalt will be laid. Sod will be finalized in the upcoming weeks.

 October 22, 2021

The prime contractor has substantially completed bridge construc-tion, less the approach slabs and the 10’ sidewalk. The grading subcontractor has only a small section of the mainline remaining. The pav-ing subcontractor has been placing base stone and slip-forming curb & gutter.  The contractor has completed a large portion of sidewalk installation. Some small areas are unfinished. In the coming weeks the first layer of asphalt will be laid, and sod will be installed.

September 22, 2021

The prime has resumed bridge operations for Phase 2 bridge.  The bridge deck and the north side wing walls have been poured with concrete. The construction of the parapet wall is underway. The grading subcontractor has finished grading a large portion of the project; only a small section of the mainline is missing. The paving subcontractor is onsite placing base stone and pouring curb & gutter. The grading sub will finish the portion of storm drainage. Contractor will start grading for the sidewalk.  

 August 13, 2021

The prime contractor has continued bridge operations for the deck for Phase 2. A bridge pour will take place in the coming weeks. The grading subcontractor has substantially finished grading Phase 2 roadway. The only section remaining is between Second Drive and the round-a-bout which is where the prime contractor is currently staging equipment for bridge construction. The paving subcontractor is onsite placing base stone and pouring curb & gutter. The grading subcontractor will continue storm installation along side of Loop Road.

July 20, 2021

The prime contractor has continued bridge operations for Abutment  1, Phase 2.  The cap and riser have been poured, The contractor has also set the beams for Span 2, Phase 2 of the bridge. The grading subcontractor is close to finishing fine grading. The paving subcontractor will be onsite in the coming weeks to begin laying base stone for the proposed roadway for Phase 2.  The grading subcontractor will continue storm installation near Second Drive and will finish installations across Loop Rd.

June 5, 2021

The prime contractor has continued bridge operations on Bent 1, Phase 2.  They have poured the bent wall and have began tying steel for the cap. The grading subcontractor is within a foot of final subgrade for the proposed roadway for Phase 2 between Loop Road and Second Drive. They will continue grading operations near Fairground Drive. The grading subcontractor will continue storm installation near Second Drive.

May 5, 2021

Bridgepoint continued laying out the storm drainage system for Phase 2, and Whaley continued pipe and structure install. Summers-Taylor finished the concrete construction of Bent 2, Phase 2. Whaley is within a foot of final subgrade for the proposed roadway for Phase 2 between Loop Road and Second Drive. A plans revision was received and sent to the contractor for the storm structures surrounding the sinkhole near Second Drive. Change Order No. 10 for drilled shafts on Bent 1, Phase 2 has been drafted and is in review.

March 11, 2021

December 7, 2020

Bridgepoint has laid out the storm drainage system for Phase 2, and Whaley has begun pipe and structure install. The signal and lighting subcontractor began installing decorative lighting along the western alignment. Demolition for the existing structure over the Norfolk-Southern railroad continued. Whaley is within a foot of final sub-grade for the proposed roadway for Phase 2. A plans revision was received and sent to the contractor to change the footer from predrilled piles to 4 drilled shafts for Bent 1, Phase 2.

November 10, 2020

Traffic was switched on to the recently constructed Phase 1 of Concord Road on the night of Wednesday, October 7. The signal and lighting subcontractor has continued installing conduit and light pole foundations throughout the project. Demolition for the existing structure over the Norfolk Southern railroad has begun. A plans revision was received and sent to the contractor to change the footer from predrilled piles to four drilled shafts for Bent 1, Phase 2.
 

October 7, 2020

The contractor has recently completed work on Phase 1 of the construction of the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railway as well as grading, utility relocations and drainage for Phase 1 construction.  The traffic shift onto the recently constructed Phase 1 of Concord Road will take place the night of Wednesday, October 7th from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am the following morning. The signal and lighting subcontractor has continued installing conduit and light pole foundations throughout the project.

September 10, 2020

The contractor has recently completed work on Phase 1 of the construction of the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railway as well as grading, utility relocations and drainage for Phase 1. Paving for the remainder of Phase1 will begin this month.  KUB redesigned a portion of their gas line from the beginning of the project to Turker Creek from a 4" line to an 8" line to accomodate future growth. This change was fully funded by the utility.  In excavation for Bent 1, the contractor encountered fissured rock. Excavating below the rock caused a shift in the rock and an unstable back slope. Due to the location and fragile state of a 24" FMS, plans were revised to include a drilled pole footing. The Phase 2 footing is currently being designed to avoid the utility. The new design is planned to utilize 4' drilled shaft piers. 

July 29, 2020

The contractor will be closing a section of Concord Road near the round-a-bout for bridge work. This closure will begin at 7pm and finish at 6am on Wednesday, August 5 and Thursday, August 6, and then again Sunday, August 9 and Monday, August 10. Message boards and detour signage will be in place to inform motorists of this work. 

Monday, July 6, 2020 – Friday, July 31, 2020:

The grading contractor is going to finish grading operations and begin curb and gutter installation from the beginning of the project to Turkey Creek Road. They will also continue grading and paving operations near the First Utility District sewer plant access road. The bridge contractor has poured the bridge deck for Phase 1 construction and will continue bridge work regarding the approach slabs and parapet wall. This work is in preparation of constructing the new western alignment of Concord Road.  

The contractor will also continue installing street light conduit and foundations for both street lights and traffic signals for the project. Out-of-contract communication relocations will be taking place throughout the project site.
