The contractor has recently completed work on Phase 1 of the construction of the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railway as well as grading, utility relocations and drainage for Phase 1. Paving for the remainder of Phase1 will begin this month.  KUB redesigned a portion of their gas line from the beginning of the project to Turker Creek from a 4" line to an 8" line to accomodate future growth. This change was fully funded by the utility.  In excavation for Bent 1, the contractor encountered fissured rock. Excavating below the rock caused a shift in the rock and an unstable back slope. Due to the location and fragile state of a 24" FMS, plans were revised to include a drilled pole footing. The Phase 2 footing is currently being designed to avoid the utility. The new design is planned to utilize 4' drilled shaft piers.

July 29, 2020

The contractor will be closing a section of Concord Road near the round-a-bout for bridge work. This closure will begin at 7pm and finish at 6am on Wednesday, August 5 and Thursday, August 6, and then again Sunday, August 9 and Monday, August 10. Message boards and detour signage will be in place to inform motorists of this work.

Monday, July 6, 2020 – Friday, July 31, 2020:

The grading contractor is going to finish grading operations and begin curb and gutter installation from the beginning of the project to Turkey Creek Road. They will also continue grading and paving operations near the First Utility District sewer plant access road. The bridge contractor has poured the bridge deck for Phase 1 construction and will continue bridge work regarding the approach slabs and parapet wall. This work is in preparation of constructing the new western alignment of Concord Road.

The contractor will also continue installing street light conduit and foundations for both street lights and traffic signals for the project. Out-of-contract communication relocations will be taking place throughout the project site.
