State Route 115 (US 129) Alcoa Highway Hall Road to Tyson Boulevard Interchange

Timeline

Transportation projects are developed in three phases: Preliminary Engineering, Right-of-Way and Construction. Due to the significant size of the State Route 115 (US 129/Alcoa Highway) project, the proposed improvements have been separated into seven smaller sections or phases. The section between State Route 35 (Hall Road) and the proposed Tyson Boulevard Interchange is currently under construction.

August 25, 2022

Project contract items are completed. Working on airport and project punch lists, along with dodder removal. 

July 1, 2022

Contract items completed. The contractor is addressing any requests by TDOT and local partners.

May 31, 2022

Current activities include installation of stock fence, box tube raiil, cable rail, signage and permanent stabilization.  

April 27, 2022

Current activities include thermoplastic, texture coat, striping thermo layout, stock fence, shoulder stone, and erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

April 4, 2022

Current activities include paving side roads and southbound Alcoa Highway. Crews are striping  to permanent standards where available. Light conduit installation continues. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.  

March 1, 2022

Current activities include milling and paving side roads, working on noise wall panels, slip forming median barrier wall and light conduit installation. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.  

January 25, 2022

Current activities include noise wall drilling, noise wall post, noise wall panels, concrete curb for Hunt Road, storm water installation in the median and light conduit installation. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

Current activities include excavation NB SR 115, Shoulder Stone Median SR 115, Pipe Installation Median SR 115, Grading Ramp D, Grading Ramp B and erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.  

August 13, 2021

Current activities include excavation of SR 115 northbound, shoulder stone Ramp C2, Median Barrier Wall Installation at Ramp C2, and Grading at Ramp D. The multi-use path along Hunt Road is being paved. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

July 20, 2021

Current activities include paving Tyson Boulevard/Tesla, paving on State Route 35, slope paving, and grading Northbound at the beginning of the project.  The multi-use path along Hunt Road is being paved.  Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

June 5, 2021

Current activities include excavation at Tyson Boulevard and the placing of base stone on SR 35. Electric overhead being finalized. The multi-use path along Hunt Road is being graded. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

May 5, 2021

Pipe installation on SR 35/SR 115 is underway. The multi-use path along Hunt Road is being graded. Excavation at Tyson Boulevard is ongoing. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide. Grading on SR 35 is active.  Stone is being placed on cul– de– sac. Noise wall construction should begin by Summer 2021.

March 11, 2021

Pipe installation is taking place on Whitney Street. The multi-use path along Hunt Road is being graded. Excavation for Tyson Boulevard has started. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide. Grading on SR 35 is active. New traffic control for SR35 is being placed. Noisewall construction should begin by Summer  2021

 February 9, 2021

Southbound Alcoa Highway is being paved and is expected to open next week. The multi-use path along Hunt Road is being graded. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide. Box Culvert is being formed and fill will be placed in the coming days to start the widening of SR35 northbound ramp to SR 115. Mill Street and Hunt Road Intersection traffic lights are on flash and will be active 2/16/2021. Noisewall construction should begin by Summer 2021.

December 7, 2020

The Hunt Road Bridge has been opened to traffic. The multi-use path along Hunt Road is being graded. The contractor is in the process of pouring the walls for Bridge 1. Crews are constructing the embankment for SR 115 on the right side from Ramp A to Bridge No. 1. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

November 10, 2020

The contractor is finishing up all the concrete work on the Hunt Road Bridge. Ramp A, Ramp B and the location of the future Tesla extension are being graded. The contractor plans to pour the bridge deck for Bridge 1 soon.  Constructing the embankment for SR 115 on the right side from Ramp A to Bridge No. 1. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

October 7, 2020

The contractor is installing reinforcing steel on the Hunt Road bridge. Ramps A and B and the location of the future Tesla extension are being graded. The contractor has placed metal decking for Bridge 1, the Tesla Road underpass. The contractor is topsoiling slopes at the waste area. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide. 

September 10, 2020

The contractor is installing metal decking on the Hunt Road bridge. Ramp A, Ramp B and the loction of the future Tesla extension are being graded. The contractor has poured both abutments for Bridge 1, the Tesla Road underpass. The contractor is placing topsoil on slopes at the retention pond and the internal circulation for the airport. Erosion control measures are being maintained site-wide.

July 29, 2020

On Monday, August 3, the southbound lanes of Alcoa Highway will be shifted off the current alignment and onto a temporary alignment. On Tuesday, August 4, the northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway will be shifted off the current alignment and onto a temporary alignment. This will allow the contractor to begin constructing the bridge over the new Tesla Boulevard extension. This traffic pattern is expected to be in place until December 2020. This schedule is weather permitting.

Hunt Road bridge over Alcoa Highway

Beginning Saturday, June 13, 2020, the Hunt Road bridge will be CLOSED to all traffic to allow TDOT contract crews to demolish the existing structure and construct the new bridge. The closure will remain in place through winter 2020. Additional temporary nighttime closures are planned for Alcoa Highway (under the bridge).
