TRAFFIC ADVISORY

New Section of Ramp at Exit 1C from U.S. 27 South in Chattanooga to Open

Changed traffic pattern to affect traffic at 6th Street and MLK Blvd. West

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – On Thursday, September 19, 2019, TDOT contract crews will open a newly‑constructed section of the existing ramp at Exit 1C from U.S. 27 South at the end of the Olgiati Bridge in Chattanooga. The new section will extend the length of the ramp from 4th Street to 6th Street.

After the new section of the ramp is opened, traffic wishing to access 4th Street, 6th Street and MLK Blvd. West (toward Riverfront Parkway) from U.S. 27 South will do so using Exit 1C. At the intersection of the ramp with 6th Street, a new traffic signal will allow traffic to turn left onto 6th Street and travel into the downtown area or turn right and continue on Gateway Avenue to M.L. King Blvd. Employees traveling to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee via U.S. 27 South will use Exit 1C to access their campus.

After morning rush hour on Friday, September 20, 2019, the ramp currently in use (marked in red on the map) from U.S. 27 South onto MLK Blvd. West (toward Riverfront Parkway) will be permanently closed.

Traffic wishing to access 4th Street from U.S. 27 South will not be affected by this change, but will continue to use Exit 1C as they have done since July. Traffic wishing to access MLK Blvd. East (toward downtown) from U.S. 27 South will continue to use Exit 1B.

Motorists are urged to use caution and pay close attention to signage in the work zone.
