Traffic Shift Planned on I-65 South at I-24 East Merge in Davidson County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews plan to shift traffic on I-65 southbound near the I-24 east merge in Nashville for the continued widening of I-65 between Dickerson Pike and Trinity Lane. To prepare for the shift, lane closures are scheduled as follows.

Friday August 28 at 8:00 p.m. through Saturday August 29 at 5:00 p.m. – I-65 South will be reduced to one lane. The I-24 eastbound ramp to I-65 South will be closed. Detours will be in place.

During the lane and ramp closures, barrier wall will be moved and the roadway will be restriped. This work will reduce I-65 southbound from three to two lanes at the I-24 East merge and will create a dedicated lane for merging traffic from I-24 East. The shift is necessary to allow traffic from both interstates to merge safely within the constraints of the work zone.

The new traffic pattern will be in place through the remainder of the project construction. Motorists should be aware of the changes, and all drivers are reminded the speed limit in the work zone is 45 mph.

The traffic shift is a critical part of the final stages of the widening project that will expand I-65 from six to ten lanes, adding much needed capacity for the more than 142,000 vehicles that travel this section every day. The $50 million project is expected to be finished in late 2015.
