NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close a two-mile stretch of I-40, known as the “South Loop” of downtown Nashville, for a major bridge rehabilitation project for six weekends in the coming months. The closures are tentatively scheduled as follows.

Friday, September 18 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, September 21 at 6:00 a.m.

I-40 at Clinton Street

Friday, October 2 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, October 5 at 6:00 a.m.
Friday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, October 12 at 6:00 a.m.

I-40 at Charlotte Avenue

Friday, October 30 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, November 2 at 6:00 a.m.

During all weekend closures, I-40 will be closed from the I-40/I-65 split west of downtown to the I-40/I-65 split south of downtown. Local street closures are dependent on the bridge under construction.

***ALL WORK IS WEATHER DEPENDENT***

A final decision for each closure will be made the Wednesday before the scheduled work.

During the closures, all traffic will be detoured to the north and east of downtown. Message boards will alert motorists to the closures and alternate routes. Detours are also available online. Drivers are advised to plan ahead.

The closures are part of the $62 million project, known as Fast Fix 8, that will rehabilitate eight bridges along the downtown loop. The project began with the replacement of the twin bridges over Jo Johnston Avenue. Approximately 13 weekend interstate closures are expected through June 2016. All scheduled closures are tentative, dependent on weather and project progress.
