Project Completion Date Extended for Construction of Pedestrian Bridge
The reconstruction and widening of State Route 62 (Western Avenue), from Schaad Road to Copper Kettle Road in Knox County, is nearly complete. Road work continues on the section from McKamey Road to North Ball Camp Pike. Street light installation is also ongoing. As designed, the new light poles will replace the existing poles to illuminate the roadway and increase overall traffic safety.

In addition to the original project plans, a new pedestrian bridge has been designed for this area. TDOT is currently working with the contractor on pricing and time extensions for the additional work. Construction will require relocation of sewer lines and utilities. Scheduling of the sewer relocation is underway. Utility relocation plans are expected by mid-March 2017. Once the plans are received, utility poles in/around the bridge site will be replaced with larger poles to ensure transmission line clearance. After all utilities have been cleared, construction of the bridge is expected to take six months to complete.
