Reimbursement Account
Alternatives to Placing Children in Adult JailsThe Commission administers the Reimbursement Account as provided by Tennessee Code Annotated 37-1-161 to counties that are eligible to participate based on the statute. These funds provide counties with financial assistance in paying for alternatives to placing children in adult jails. A notice of the availability of funds is sent to all eligible counties each year for them to respond and request participation in the Reimbursement Account.
Currently, 31 counties qualify and receive reimbursement funds which are awarded at various levels based on historical usage, with each county receiving a minimum grant of $150 and a maximum of $10,000. Federal funding is used to provide financial assistance to counties to provide alternatives to placing children in adult jails. The list of counties with Reimbursement Account funds contracts is below. Reimbursement Account contracts are annual contracts, established by statute, that have been administered by the Commission and its predecessor agency since they were established. The Reimbursement Account statute was initially adopted in 1984 and revised in 1988.
A list of counties receiving these funds is available.
