Elissa currently advises education and non-profit organizations as an independent consultant. After graduating from Northwestern University, Elissa joined Teach For America and taught English for three years at the largest public high school in the city of New Orleans. She went on to serve 17 years with Teach For America, most recently as the Executive Vice President of Recruitment and Admissions. Under her leadership Teach For America realized compound annual growth in applications to the corps of eighteen percent. In 2012 she was elected to a four-year term on the Metro Nashville Public Schools' Board of Education, representing its fifth district, and currently she serves on the board of Nashville Public Radio.
