Jones Wilson Luna, a Lewisburg native, was appointed Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment in September, 1988. He previously served as assistant attorney general in the 14th Judicial District, encompassing Coffee, Warren and Van Buren counties; in the cabinet of Governor Ned McWherter; and as Commissioner of Personnel for Tennessee (from 1987 to 1988). He created the concept for and obtained executive and legislative approval for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and then served as its first Commissioner from 1991-1995. He earned a B.A. degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. At UT, he was President of the Student Bar Association.
