About Path to College Events

Sponsored by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC), Path to College events are designed to help promote a college-going culture in elementary, middle, and high schools and provide increased insight to the college-going process as students approach high school graduation. Last year, 984 Tennessee schools participated. Path to College events also provide students with the opportunity to master a variety of the TN School Counseling standards. A crosswalk is available here.

Materials Registration

Path to College Materials Registration for 2019/2020 closed on August 16th, 2019. Registration for the 2020/2021 school year will be available in the spring of 2020.

Events

Path to College events are made up of the following four events:

College Application and Exploration Week: Scheduled for September 16-20, 2019, the goal of this event is to build excitement and knowledge around the college-going process at all grade levels and provide every graduating senior an opportunity to apply to college.

TN FAFSA Frenzy: Created with the goal of increasing statewide FAFSA-filing rates, TN FAFSA Frenzy is a statewide campaign to encourage and support seniors filing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). At elementary and middle schools, students can participate in TN FAFSA Frenzy by exploring financial literacy concepts and reviewing the basics of financial aid.

College and Career Planning: Originally designed for high school juniors and their parents, this after-school event provides crucial information about college search, application, and financial aid processes. For younger students and parents, college planning includes resources for career exploration and planning for the student’s future.

College Signing Day: This school wide celebration recognizes and commends seniors in the community that have made the decision to continue their postsecondary education. Elementary and middle schools can get involved by joining the high school celebrations or signing graduation pledges of their own.

School Designation

Schools that host all four Path to College events during the upcoming school year and complete post-event survey by the stated deadlines will be eligible to receive the 2019/2020 Path to College school designation. More information and links to the surveys can be found on the Path to College School Designation tab.
