List of inactive hazardous substance sites that are promulgated under the Hazardous Substance Remedial Action rule (Rule 0400-15-01).
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) wants to build a new landfill to dispose of their radioactive, hazardous, and toxic wastes in Oak Ridge. They are running out of available space at their current landfill, the Environmental Management Waste Management Facility (EMWMF). DOE seeks approval for the new landfill under CERCLA regulations just like the EMWMF. DOE calls the proposed new landfill the “Environmental Management Disposal Facility” or “EMDF”.
The ACC Landfill Site is located on an approximately 48.02-acre parcel of land located on Arrow Mines Road south of the City of Mt. Pleasant in Maury County, Tennessee. The ACC Landfill is a closed Class II (industrial) solid waste disposal facility that was used for the disposal of aluminum recycling wastes from the Smelter Service Corporation. The disposed wastes consist of “salt cake” slag and bag-house dusts from Smelter Service’s aluminum smelting operations. Salt cake contains high concentrations of highly soluble salts sodium chloride and potassium chloride.
