Egyptian Lacquer Manufacturing Company Cleanup (Franklin, TN)

Egyptian Lacquer Manufacturing Company (ELMCO) is a paint and lacquer manufacturing facility that is located at 113 Fort Granger Drive, Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee. In January, 2007, the City of Franklin and TDEC collected samples along Liberty Creek near the facility, in response to citizen complaints of strong odors coming from the creek. Analytical results from the samples confirmed the presence of toluene and acetone in both water and air samples. The Department then initiated emergency response actions to contain these chemicals. View correspondence, notices, reports, plans and project status reports.

Proposed DOE Environmental Management Disposal Facility (Oak Ridge, TN)

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) wants to build a new landfill to dispose of their radioactive, hazardous, and toxic wastes in Oak Ridge. They are running out of available space at their current landfill, the Environmental Management Waste Management Facility (EMWMF). DOE seeks approval for the new landfill under CERCLA regulations just like the EMWMF. DOE calls the proposed new landfill the “Environmental Management Disposal Facility” or “EMDF”.
