Visible Emissions Evaluation (Smoke School)
The Division is planning to conduct smoke schools in the Knoxville area during the spring and fall of 2021, the exact dates and location are not yet finalized.
Certification will be awarded to those applicants who meet the qualification requirements of EPA Federal Reference Method 9. Certification in this program is recognized and accepted nationwide.

Course Description
Day One: Lecture
(Required for Initial Certification; Optional for Recertification)
Lecture held at State Park Inn Conference Room, or Hampton Inn, Kodak, TN
Certification runs start the second day.
Day Two: Field Program
(Initial Certification and/or Recertification)
Note: Students are prohibited from wearing light compensating eyeglasses during field certification tests.
Note: The Division of Air Pollution Control will only guarantee to conduct a minimum of eight (8) certification runs.
Day Three: Field Program
(Continue Certification Runs, If Necessary)
