Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)

Do you know an outstanding mathematics or science teacher? Parents, educators, and community members can now nominate teachers for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). This year nominations are open to kindergarten through sixth grade mathematics and science teachers who have at least five complete years of full-time K-12 mathematics or science teaching experience prior to the current academic school year.

Presidential Awardees at the national level receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a trip to Washington, D. C. to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

To nominate a great educator, visit the National Science Foundation’s website at www.paemst.org.

TCAP Educator Committees

Applications are now open for educators to participate in both rangefinding for English language arts written responses and passage review for the English language arts TCAP assessments.

The purpose of rangefinding is to have Tennessee educators determine how rubrics should be applied so that hand scorers have clear guidance on how to score student responses for the operational assessment. The purpose of passage review is to select a variety of passages for the Tennessee ELA assessments that are appropriate for the grade level, engaging for students, and can support a robust item development.

Rangefinding will take place Oct. 7-9 and passage review will take place Nov. 4-6. Both events will be held in Nashville. The time commitment for each educator committee is three days. All participants will receive a daily stipend or sub reimbursement. Travel costs will also be reimbursed, while those committee members who live more than 50 miles from the meeting location will also be eligible to receive hotel accommodations as well as reimbursement for meals and incidentals as appropriate.

Educators will be selected for the following committees:
