BEP Task Force Status Report

Waiver Request to Extend the Period of Availability for School Improvement Funds for Tennessee’s Cohort 4 schools

The Tennessee Department of Education is requesting to waive section 421 (b) of the General Education Provisions Act [20 U.S.C § 1225(b)] to extend the period of availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 school improvement funds for the department and all of its LEAs to September 30, 2020. This waiver is requested for the purpose of making five-year awards to eligible LEAs. 

If you have comments regarding the requested waiver, please provide in writing via email to Rita.Fentress@tn.gov by May 15, 2015. All comments will be forwarded to the U.S. Department of Education. Please also feel free to contact Rita with any questions about the waivers.

IDEA Part B Application for Federal Funds: Notice of Public Comment

The Tennessee IDEA Part B Application for Federal Funds (Fiscal Year July 1, 2015-June 30, 2016) will be posted for 60 days, March 4 through May 4, 2015. Public comments will be accepted for a period of 30 days, March 12 through April 12, 2015.

Invitation to Submit Evidence-Based Whole-School Reform Strategies

The United States Department of Education USED is inviting strategy developers and other entities and individuals to submit evidence-based whole-school reform strategies for review and identification for use by local educational agencies (LEAs) receiving funds under the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program, authorized under section 1003(g) of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended. Textbook Collection Sites

Beginning in 2015, all future textbooks bid in Tennessee will be made available for review online. Information regarding how to access digital reviews for the upcoming textbook adoption cycle will be available on the Textbook Online Samples webpage by May 1, 2015. With the availability of an online review, textbooks in printed form will only be available for review at Middle Tennessee State University. In order for members of the public to have access to the math textbooks that districts are reviewing for adoption in the 2015-16 school year, the collection sites will remain open until July 31, 2015. Approved LEA Teacher Employment Standard Waivers

Pursuant to Tennessee State Board of Education Rule 0520-01-02-.03, "a teacher may teach up to two sections of one course outside the area of endorsement. For a teacher to teach more than one course or more than two sections of one course outside the area of endorsement, an employment standard waiver must be requested and approved." Employment standard waivers granted by the department of education are posted here by district, the teacher's last name and first initial, and date of approval.
