Professional Learning Opportunities

Federal Reserve Bank

The two-day workshop provides secondary educators and pre-service student teachers with the necessary training (employment requirement) for teaching the required Tennessee high school personal finance course. The session will allow educators to expand their knowledge of personal finance concepts and will provide curriculum and supplemental teaching tools for use in the classroom. Concepts covered include: financial responsibility and personal decision making; education, careers, and income; planning and money management; credit and debt; risk management; and, saving and investing.  Participants must attend both days.

The program is conducted in partnership by Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta – Nashville Branch and the MTSU Center for Economic Education.

UT Extension

UT Extension is a department-approved provider to prepare high school teachers to teach Personal Finance. Extension educators offer two-day workshops across the state that provide 14 hours of training for teachers to meet the employment requirement to teach Personal Finance. Participants must attend both full days in order to meet the department’s employment requirement to teach this course. There is no charge for the workshops.

UT Extension offers:

  • Two-day workshops across the state (14 hours)
  • National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) High School Financial Planning Program (HSFPP) curriculum
  • Supplemental personal finance instruction and resources
  • Training that meets the Tennessee Personal Finance content standards

NEFE HSFPP student guides and instructor manuals are FREE to participants. Workshops are offered at no charge to participants.
