Common Concerns Working in Edison
Request an Edison Account: DCS foster parent training is tracked in Edison, the learning management system for the State of Tennessee. Learners can use this account to register for classroom trainings, complete computer-based tarinings, and track their own learning. Click the link to above to enroll. At this time only DCS foster parents are being enrolled in Edison. Private provider foster parents should speak with their FPS worker or agency contact for training records information.
Training: Working in Edison: Foster parents can receive one hour of training credit to apply to their annual training requirements by completing this introductory training. The videos in this training will demonstrate how to navigate in Edison, including how to login, finding foster parent training information on the DCS website, navigating the Learning Home page, enrolling in courses, and completing computer-based trainings in Edison.

Click the red button labeled Employee Portal Login, even if you are logging in for the first time. If this is your first time login, type the username and password provided in your initial email, and you will be able to complete your Edison profile setup, including creating your new password.
Parents should only contact the Edison Help Desk for password related issues, including resets for the first time login if you are unable to locate the Edison email with this information.
The Help Desk is not able to look up or provide user IDs to callers; you must have this information available when calling for a password reset. Contact your Foster Parent Support Worker if you have questions about your user login ID.
The Help Desk is not able to assist with training related concerns, including training credit or completion of online trainings within Edison. Speak with your FPS Worker for help receiving training credit, or call (615) 499-6832 and leave a message, and a training staff member will assist you.
You can reach the Edison Help Desk at (866) 376-0104 or (615) 741-4357, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM Central Time. The Help Desk is closed for holidays along with other state offices.
If you have forgotten your Edison login ID, click the Retrieve Access ID button on the Edison login screen and provide the information request. The information you provide MUST match the information in the system or you will not be able to retrieve your ID. if you need additional assistance, keep reading below.
Most foster parents will have what is called an external learner account, the user ID beginning with EL$. If you submitted an Edison enrollment form and have not received information about an Edison account, ask your Foster Parent Support Worker if your account has been created. If your FPS worker is unable to locate your login information, you may contact Stacy.Arnold@tn.gov for further assistance.
If you are a state employee, you may be able to use your employee Edison account to register for foster parent training. Complete the Edison Account Enrollment Form (click the tab above) and indicate that you are a state employee, and provide your 8 digit Edison Employee Number in the space provided.
If you have logged in to Edison previously but have forgotten your password, or if your password has expired after 90 days, click the Forgot password link is on the login screen to set a new password.
If you are attempting to log in to Edison for the first time, be sure to check your email (the account indicated when you submitted your enrollment form), including spam folders, for your user information with onetime password. if you know your login ID but do not have an email from Edison, you may contact the Edison Help Desk for a password reset.
Call (866) 376-0104 or (615) 741-4357. The help desk is open from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM Central, Monday through Friday, except holidays. Note that you must know your user ID when requesting a password reset; the help desk staff are not able to provide this information.
If you have not submitted the Edison Account Enrollment Form, click here and provide the information requested. Note that completion of this form is NOT creation of your Edison account. It may take up to six weeks for your account to be created.
Passwords in Edison expire every 90 days. About one week before a password is set to expire, users will begin to receive emails from email@example.com. This email includes instructions for resetting passwords; however these instructions will NOT work for external learners (foster parents, private providers, etc.).
To reset your password, enter your user ID on the Edison login screen. On the password screen, click the red Forgot Password link instead of entering your current password. Follow the steps on the next screen to complete your password reset.
If you are having trouble completing a computer based training (CBT) in Edison because of time-out issues, you may need to log out of Edison and log back in to resume your training. Long video trainings may allow the system to log you out because of perceived inactivity. If you are viewing a video training in Edison for more than 30 minutes, a pop up window will appear asking you to confirm that you are still using Edison. Click okay to confirm and you should be able to resume training.

Attendance for trainings completed through DCS will be recorded in Edison by a DCS Training Coordinator or the training contract agency. Most classroom trainings are recorded within one week of completion. Webinars may take up to six weeks to be entered in Edison. Once recorded, you will be able to see your completion status in the My Learning section of Edison.
Parents who do not have an Edison ID can register for trainings via the phone number and email provided in each event listing on the post approval training calendar.
Webinars are offered via WebEx and can only be registered for using the link in the calendar event listing. Participants who do not have an Edison ID can type "n/a" in the field provided to complete registration. Upcoming webinars can be found on the Live Webinars calendar on the post approval training calendar page linked above.
if you are a newly approved DCS foster parent, be sure to submit the Edison Account Enrollment Form (see tab above) so that you can register for future trainings in Edison.
Private provider foster parents are not being enrolled into Edison at this time, but are able to register for DCS-offered trainings using the contact information provided in the event listings.
