Chief of Staff
Jennifer Donnals became the Department of Children's Services Chief of Staff in March of 2020. She first joined DCS in May 2019 as executive director of communications and legislation, overseeing communications with the public, media, legislators and department stakeholders.
Donnals has more than 25 years of professional communications experience, including 17 years serving in chief government communications roles. She served as former Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam's director of communications and press secretary, working daily with state and national media, advising the governor on communication strategy and leading the communications plans for the administration’s key initiatives.
She previously held communications directors positions with the Tennessee Secretary of State's Office, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and the Shelby County (Memphis) District Attorney's Office.
Donnals' career started in broadcast journalism, working at three different television stations in Ohio, Alabama and Tennessee. She is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
