Johnson City Day Reporting Center Holds Fourth Annual Day of H.O.P.E.
Event Designed to Educate Family & Friends of Current DRC ParticipantsJOHNSON CITY – Earlier today the Johnson City Day Reporting Center (DRC) held its Fourth Annual ‘Day of H.O.P.E.: Helping Others Promote Education’ event. The event served as an educational seminar for the family and friends of those currently enrolled in the DRC program. Topics included understanding addiction and how loved ones can provide support and assistance to those suffering from addiction.
Throughout the morning, presentations were by DRC counselors and staff, DRC participants and guest speakers representing partnering agencies from within the Tri-Cities area. Topics discussed during those presentations included what addiction is and how it affects the brain, what signs to look for if you suspect a loved one is becoming an addict and how to be supportive without enabling. Those in the audience were also provided a comprehensive explanation as to what the DRC is and how it works to help those suffering from addiction find sobriety.
“Our ultimate goal today is to educate those closest to our DRC participants, their friends and family,” Suzanne Runion, Clinical Director of the Johnson City Day Reporting Center said. “Better knowledge and understanding of addiction makes stronger foundations for families helping a loved one battle addiction.”
The Day Reporting Center is a three-phase intensive program that focuses primarily on substance use, job skills, family reunification, and behavioral and social programs, all with an emphasis on accountability and self-discipline. The Tennessee Department of Correction operates six DRC’s in total across the state.
