ALL THREE CONTINUE TO RECOVER AT HOME

ONLY – All three officers assaulted during Sunday’s disturbance at Turney Center Industrial Complex are now recovering at home.  Officer Paul Nielsen was released from the hospital Wednesday night, and Officer Jesse Shockley was released this afternoon.  Officer Lester Ball was released overnight Sunday.  The officers are in good spirits and will continue to recuperate with the full support and prayers of the Department of Correction and the community.

“I can’t tell you how thankful I am that all three of these officers are now back at home with their families,” says TDOC Commissioner Tony Parker.  “The support shown to them and to the Department by community leaders and the public has been truly inspiring, and we continue to pray for their recovery.”

The Department continues to work closely with other law enforcement agencies including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which has been asked to assist in the investigation.

Units involved in the incident remain on lockdown, while others have begun a modified activity schedule.  Visitation is cancelled for this Friday, April 14.  Saturday through Monday (4/15/17-4/17/17) regular visitation will resume for offenders in units 1, 2, 5, and 6.  Visitation this weekend is cancelled for offenders housed in units 3 & 4.
