North Shore Boone Lake and Boone Dam

Site Directions: From I-26, take exit 13 (Gray), go north on TN 75 (toward the airport), cross the river, then turn right on Boone Dam Road and stay straight to the visitor center above the dam.

Hours: daylight hours

Seasonality: year round, but fall and winter are for best birding

Fees: none

Site Description: Boone Lake is one of the smaller reservoirs in the TVA system. Shortly after turning off TN 75 there will be a parking lot on the right from which to scan the tailwaters. Continue up the road to the visitor center overlooking Boone Lake. 

Wildlife to Watch: In winter look for loons, grebes, gulls, and Bald Eagle.

There may be a some ducks, also, if boat traffic is light. Osprey occur in migration.

Black-crowned Night-Herons may be seen below the dam in fall.

Wild Turkeys are often seen in open areas and woodland edge. Otters are possible in the river below the dam.
