Interstate 65 Interchange at State Route 109

Robertson and Sumner Counties

Construction of new interchange is currently underway on Interstate 65 in Sumner and Robertson Counties. The project includes construction of an interchange with ramps and connector roads at I-65 and a proposed new alignment of State Route 109 near the current I-65 crossing of Lake Springs Road.

Purpose and Need

The primary purpose of the I-65 interchange project is to provide improved interstate access. The new interchange will provide safe and adequate transportation facilities for traffic projected to be generated by the existing and anticipated population and employment growth in the project vicinity, some of which is directly associated with industrial developments in the immediate area.

The following design features will be included in the project:

  • Widening of I-65 to six lanes from south of the proposed interchange to near the Kentucky border.
  • Construction of the proposed new alignment of SR 109 from existing SR 109 to I-65.
  • Widening of US-31W/SR-41 to five lanes, with curb and gutter, from the new intersection with SR 109 to near the Kentucky border.
