TN M.I.N.D.S. (Music Intervention Navigating Dementia Symptoms) is a program part of Dementia Capable TN. We are implementing an intervention that will combine:
1) Powerful Tools for Caregivers and
2) Personalized music for individuals living with dementia
Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an evidence-based education program for family caregivers to improve self-care behaviors, management of emotions, self-efficacy, and use of community resources. For more information on Powerful Tools for Caregivers program please visit www.powerfultoolsforcaregivers.org
Use of personalized music reduces behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia including depression, agitation and aggressive behavior while increasing socialization, communication and quality of life.
TN M.I.N.D.S will ensure that caregivers get much needed supports through the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program while the care-receivers with dementia receive a music player with a personalized playlist.
We need help in both areas!
1) Powerful Tools for Caregivers Class Leaders:
Class Leaders teach a 6-week class for caregivers on stress management, local resources, and other topics. The classes are held once a week for 90 minutes. Interested individuals must complete the class leader application and attend a 2-day leadership training.
For more information on becoming a Powerful Tools for Caregivers Class Leader through TCAD please contact Sarah Elliott at email@example.com or (615)532-7070.
2) Music Volunteers:
Music program volunteers will work with individuals with dementia to create a personalized playlist and load the music onto a music player. Music volunteers will receive training on how to create a personalized playlist and technical assistance.
